In the last two months, I have made a total of 256 commits to the this site’s Git repo. The total number of commits before that, since 2024? A mere 111. Clearly, I have been working on this thing recently.
Working towards what I call “Present Perfect”, i.e. the state in which a website satisifes all that is demanded from it in the current moment. The absence of bugs or inconsistencies, and a design that exactly fits its goals now.
And I think I’ve done it. With the addition of the following features, I hereby declare joodaloop.com v4.7 to have achieved the status of perfect website:
External and internal links have distinct styling, since the experience of clicking them is very different (internal ones navigate instantly, always).
The new Evergreen page (which replaces Writing) presents my content in a new way, not limited by the plain lists of page titles I had earlier.
Different page title styles for the three types of content I have have on this site: essay, notebooks, riffs, worknotes.
Yes, Worknotes are a new type of post.
The addition of a very fun Screenshots page.
An RSS feed that is human-readable and provides instructions re. how to use it.
Dozens of small typographic refinements, including the “bounce” effect on page titles when in handwriting mode. Look at that perfect messiness!
A new introduction on the home page that I’m rather proud of.
The
⌘ + K search menu lists all pages across the site in chronological order by default, and is available on mobile (double-tap the screen to open it).An incredible amount of accessibility, spellcheck, responsiveness, and performance improvements, aided by Claude.
With this, I hope not touch the CSS or templates for this site until the end of the year (or even longer). I hope to not have another version update in the foreseeable future. Any additions to the site will be in the form of content. Amen.
